Choosing a Certified Lexus: RX, NX, GX, or ES?

2019 Lexus RX 450h

The luxury SUV and sedan market is as competitive as ever, even in the used market. So how to make the right decision on how to spend your hard-earned money? One answer is to press the easy button and let Lexus’ L/Certified program find a quality, lightly used car that suits your needs.

On top of being Lexus-certified via a 161-point inspection, each L/Certified pre-owned Lexus comes with an unlimited mileage warranty, roadside assistance, and complimentary maintenance for the first two years or 20,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Note that due to high demand and low inventory for used cars, prices on some pre-owned models have actually increased.

For those seeking better gas mileage, there’s a hybrid option, and those with an eye for sporty looks will find the F Sport interesting.

RX Enhancements for 2019

Not much was new for the 2019 Lexus RX, as the 2018 model year saw the addition of the extended 3-row models, the RX 350L and RX 450hL. One addition for the 2019 model year was the Lexus Enform Remote system, which enables Amazon Alexa skill integration, as standard equipment to all RX models.

2019 Lexus RX Lineup

Two primary models make up the 2019 Lexus RX range: The RX 350 and the RX 450h. The RX 350 uses a 3.5-liter V6 engine rated for 295 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque with a standard 8-speed automatic transmission. Front-wheel drive (FWD) is standard on the RX 350, but all-wheel drive (AWD) is available, as is the extended-wheelbase, 3-row RX 350L variant. The RX 350 scores up to 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway in FWD form.

The RX 450h hybrid variant also offers an extended variant, but whichever size you choose, it’ll be powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine and a 123-kW electric motor good for a total system power of 308 horsepower. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) is standard in the hybrid model, as is AWD. The RX 450h manages a much more impressive 31 mpg city and 28 mpg highway thanks to its hybrid powertrain. NX Enhancements for 2019

The Lexus NX was substantially updated for the 2018 model year, and so it carried forward into the 2019 model year largely unchanged. Minor updates for the 2019 model year included the addition of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration as standard equipment.

2019 Lexus NX Lineup

The 2019 Lexus NX lineup is made up of just two primary variants: The NX 300 and the NX 300h hybrid. Front-wheel drive is standard for the non-hybrid, while the hybrid gets AWD by default. GX Enhancements for 2019

The 2019 model year brought 10 years of complimentary Enform Safety Connect and Service Connect to the Lexus GX lineup, allowing buyers to remotely start their cars, unock their doors, and set the climate controls all from a smartphone app. Base model and Premium trims also gained blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as standard equipment.

2019 Lexus GX Lineup

There’s just a single model in the 2019 Lexus GX range, the Lexus GX 460. Powered by a 4.6-liter V8 rated for 301-horsepower and 329 lb-ft, the GX 460 scores just 15 mpg city and 18 mpg highway. A 6-speed transmission handles gear shifts, while all four wheels are driven by a full-time 4-wheel-drive (4WD) system with 2-speed transfer case and locking center differential for legitimate off-roading.

As for trim lines, there’s the base model, the Premium, and the Luxury. The Premium strikes a value sweet spot, adding features like heated and ventilated front seats, 3-zone climate control, rain-sensing wipers, parking assist, and more, for just $2,500. The Luxury trim gains adaptive suspension, second-row captain’s chair seating, and power-folding third row seats, among other upgrades. See Certified Lexus GX models for sale near you

  • Starting price when new: $40,008

Sharp exterior looks, impressive driving dynamics, and a comfortable, quiet interior are just some of the 2019 Lexus ES’ key traits. All-new for the 2019 model year, the ES is longer, wider, and more spacious, yet also more efficient and higher performing. The previous ES’ understated elegance has been set aside for a more aggressive look, but the core ES characteristics are still front and center.

ES Enhancements for 2019

Completely redesigned for the 2019 model year, the ES’ dramatic new look hints at the completely revamped powertrains, interior, and equipment just beneath the surface. The interior, likewise, was all-new, with more luxurious materials, fresh design, and even greater comfort. For the first time, Lexus offered the ES with an F Sport trim, and Apple CarPlay became available.

2019 Lexus ES Lineup

Two core variants of the 2019 Lexus ES divide the range into internal combustion engine (ICE) and hybrid models, though both are front-wheel drive. The ES 350 and ES 350 F Sport use a 3.5-liter V6 engine rated for 302 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque, paired to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The ES 350 rates 22 mpg city and 33 mpg highway, while the F Sport model scores 22 mpg city and 31 mpg highway.

Why should I buy a Lexus Certified Pre-Owned vehicle?

The Lexus L/Certified Pre-Owned program helps ensure the used vehicle you purchase will not only meet your immediate needs, but continue to do so for some time to come. To start with, two years after purchase is an unlimited-mileage warranty that comes standard with every L/Certified vehicle. If the original 4-year/50,000-mile new car warranty is still in effect, the L/Certified warranty will extend two years beyond the end of the original warranty period.

On top of the extended warranty coverage, each L/Certified Lexus has passed a 161-point inspection by Lexus-certified technicians, and Lexus’ Roadside Assistance coverage is also included during the warranty coverage period, and is available throughout the continental U.S. and Canada.
