Top Honda Certified Pre-Owned Models: Accord, CR-V, and Pilot

Buying a used car isn’t always as easy as buying a new car. Hunting for the right kind of car, making sure the car is in good shape, and finding a good deal can be time-consuming. If that sounds like more than you’d care to deal with, a certified pre-owned (CPO) Honda might be just the right answer. On top of used-car value and Honda’s reputation for reliable, safe transportation, you get the bumper-to-bumper limited warranty, roadside assistance, complimentary oil changes, and other perks that come with Honda’s core CPO program, known as HondaTrue Certified, which applies to qualifying 2017 model year and newer vehicles. Nearly new vehicles (2021 and newer) can qualify for the HondaTrue Certified+ program, while older used cars (2012 and newer) can qualify for the HondaTrue Used category.

Vehicles in the HondaTrue Certified program include a 7-year/100,000-mile limited powertrain warranty, measured from the vehicle’s original service date. For cars still under their original new vehicle limited warranty, Honda extends that warranty to 4 years or 48,000 miles. For cars purchased after the new vehicle limited warranty has expired, the HondaTrue Certified program grants a 1-year/12,000-mile limited warranty for non-powertrain coverage.

Three popular options for certified pre-owned buyers include the 2019 Honda Accord, CR-V, and Pilot.

  • CPO Fair Purchase Price at Publish Date: $26,676

While there’s no one-size-fits-all vehicle, for most buyers, if you’re looking for a sedan, you’d be happy with a Honda Accord. In addition to winning the Kelley Blue Book 5-Year Cost to Own award in 2019, it also won our 2019 Best Buy Award for midsize sedans. Reliable, easy-to-drive, efficient yet sporty, and strong on value even at the higher end, the 2019 Accord remains something of a living legend.

Accord Enhancements for 2019

The Honda Accord was completely redesigned for the 2018 model year, and carried into the 2019 model year largely unchanged, except that the 2019 Accord Touring model was made available solely with the turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder engine.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine rated for 192 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque is standard equipment in the LX, Sport, EX, and EX-L trim lines. The EX-L and Sport can also opt for the 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder rated for 252 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. The more powerful turbo 2.0-liter is standard in the Accord Touring. Both automatic and manual transmissions are available on 1.5-liter-equipped Accords, while the 2.0-liter models are automatic only.

Though it may not be as visually or dynamically exciting as some of the newcomers in the class, it remains a benchmark for quality, utility, and value.

Why should I buy a Honda Certified Pre-Owned vehicle?

All HondaTrue Certified vehicles are covered by a 7-year, 100,000-mile powertrain warranty and an extension of at least 1-year/12,000-miles beyond the vehicle’s Honda New Vehicle Limited Warranty for a total of 4 years or 48,000 miles of comprehensive coverage. All Honda CPO vehicles must pass a 182-point vehicle inspection, and to qualify for the main category of Honda’s CPO program, HondaTrue Certified, vehicles must be 2017 model year or newer and have fewer than 80,000 miles.
