Nissan advances technology toward autonomous driving with ground truth perception

Nissan designs and engineers cars that embody the pleasure and richness of driving while prioritizing a high level of safety. More than 90% of traffic accidents are caused by human ...error. Our goal is to reduce the number of accidents involving Nissan vehicles to virtually zero. Nissan’s in-development driver-assistance technology utilizes ground truth perception to dramatically enhance collision avoidance. Nissan’s ground truth perception uses next generation LIDAR tech, radar and camera information to sense a vehicle’s surrounding in real-time, including recognizing shapes and the distance of objects with a high degree of accuracy. In the video, Nissan demonstrates how the technology can be used to support collision avoidance in a variety of real-world situations using a development test car: ProPILOT - Concept Zero.

*This video was produced in 2023. The technology shown is still under development and is not yet implemented in production vehicles.

Nissan is elevating the performance capability of electric vehicles with its ...new twin-motor all-wheel-control technology called e-4ORCE and acoustic meta-material, a new sound insulation technology.

Toshiyuki Nakajima, general manager of advanced vehicle engineering department, explained the benefits of e-4ORCE technology that provides instant torque to all four wheels to deliver balanced, predictable power and handling on par with many premium sports cars.

While Susumu Miura, senior manager of advanced materials and processing laboratory research division, showed a new, lightweight noise-reducing material adding both quietness and efficiency to the electric driving experience.

Nissan is elevating the performance capability of electric vehicles with its new twin-motor all-wheel-control technology called e-4ORCE. The technology provides instant torque to all four wheels to deliver balanced, predictable power and handling on par with many premium sports cars.
The “e” represents Nissan’s technologies enabled by a 100% electric motor drive system. “4ORCE,” pronounced “force,” evokes physical power and energy with “4” standing for the all-wheel control driving capability.

The Ariya Concept also features acoustic meta-material, a new, lightweight sound insulation material that significantly reduces road noise for quiet, comfortable driving.

Nissan designed the Ariya Concept to fully embody the three pillars of Nissan Intelligent Mobility – Intelligent Driving, Intelligent Power and Intelligent Integration. Combining advanced electric-vehicle technology with a new ...level of seamless human-machine interface connectivity, it offers an entirely new driving experience.

Intuitive technology allows the Ariya Concept to fit seamlessly into the driver's daily life, on-board and off-board, providing the freedom and enjoyment of mobility anytime and anywhere.

Traveling assistance isn't limited to the vehicle. Among the human-machine interface features is Door to Door Navigation, which allows anyone to set a destination on their smartphone, transfer it to the Ariya Concept and have the vehicle's navigation system continue offering directions.

Upon arriving at the destination, drivers can use a smartphone or dedicated device to park the car automatically from a nearby location with ProPILOT Remote Park.

Nissan has invented acoustic meta-material, a new, lightweight sound ...insulation material that significantly reduces road noise for quiet, comfortable driving.

The material only weighs one-fourth of current noise insulation materials, such as rubber boards, yet provides the same reduction in road noise.
By reducing vehicle weight, the material can help improve driving performance and fuel efficiency.

The Nissan Ariya Concept is at the Nissan booth at CES 2020, visitors can see and experience the new acoustic meta-material at Nissan’s display (6306) in the North Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center. This year’s show runs from Jan. 7-10.

Nissan's Invisible-to-Visible (I2V) is now a work of art! ...The technology is being displayed at the Mori Art Museum as part of the “Future and the Arts: AI, Robotics, Cities, Life—How Humanity Will Live Tomorrow” exhibition.

Nissan is participating through the “Lifestyle and Design Innovations” section of the exhibition, where visitors will be able to experience what it will be like in the future to drive autonomous cars, and to test by themselves I2V technology through an interactive, three-dimensional immersion experience utilizing the Nissan IDS Concept mock.

Invisible-to-Visible is a technology that merges the real and virtual world in a 3D interface to help drivers “see the invisible,” creating the ultimate connected-car experience.
